Koller-Liberati give second win of the year to VSR in the Hungaroring heat

The Vincenzo Sospiri Racing Lamborghini Huracan SuperTrofeo #6 took its second win the year in Race 1 in a very hot afternoon at the Hungaroring. This time, Hans-Peter Koller was not left alone, and the Swiss could count on his regular team mate, Edoardo Liberati (who could not race at Ricard after falling ill. “Actually he did most of the job”, admitted the Swiss, “as his first stint was absolutely perfect. I only had to control things, which was not easy anyway because of the intense heat and tyre degradation.”

Koller resisted the great come-back of Victor Blugeon. On his debut, the young Frenchman impressed and brought the Martinet by Alméras Porsche 911 Cup to a brilliant second place, ahead of Glauco Solieri (Antonelli Motorsport Lambo), who took the win in the Am class ahead of Niki Leutwiler (PZ Oberer Zürichsee by TFT Porsche), who came 4th overall and extends his lead in the overall standings. Márcio Basso-Guilherme Salas (Sports&You Mercedes) and Manel Cerqueda-Daniel Díaz Varela (Baporo Motorsport Audi R8 LMS) took third, respectively, in Pro-Am and Am.
THE RACE - At the start, Liberati keeps the advantage of his stunning pole earlier in the day, while Solieri takes second from Blugeon. They are followed by Leutwiler, Cerqueda, Curti and Basso, who had a contact with Vinyes in first lap that sent the Andorran into a spin (This will cost the Brazilian a drive-through). Also Toni suffers an early spin.
In lap 3, Carlo Curti passes Cerqueda with a daring move and one lap later De Fulgencio takes 7th from Basso, passed one lap later also by the other McLaren of De Fulgencio. In the lead, Liberati is flying, having built a 12-second gap in 4 laps.
Toni spins in lap 11, while in lap 13, the window for driver change opens, with Reischl, Toni and Basso as the first to stop. In lap 17, Lberati stops to give the wheel to Koller, while Mauro touches Fortes and sends him into a spin. He also will get drive-through later on.
After all stops, Koller has a comfortable advantage (33 seconds) over Blugeon, now second ahed of Solieri, Leutwiler, Lino Curti, Diaz-Varela and Salom. Positions stabilise but the advantage of Koller is diminishing: 17 seconds by lap 22. Blugeon will press until the end but the car will get 6 seconds added to its time bec0au0se not serving the entire handicap. Similar sanctions will hit Salom (4 seconds) and Curti (1 second).
This gives breathing space to Koller, who crosses the line first with the Porsche on his heels, with Salas catching up positions in the closing laps and taking a final 5th overall.
