Hans-Peter Koller and Edoardo Liberati, at the wheel of the Vincenzo Sospiri Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo, took a closely fought win in Race 1 at Silverstone, in what has probably be the most lively and entertaining race of the GT Cup Open so far. In the series’ first visit to the UK, the debuting Optimum Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage took an excellent second, with Irish duo Connor O’Brien-Charlie Eastwood, ahead of the Baporo Motorsport Audi R8 LMS of Daniel Díaz-Varela and Manel Cerqueda, who took top honours in the Am class.

With  his third success of the season, Koller jumps to P2 in the overall standings, only 3 points behind his country-fellow Leutwiler (PZ Oberer Zurichsee Porsche), today 5th, while Glauco Solieri (Antonelli Motordport), today 6th, is now third, ahead of Toni-Mauro (VSR Lamborghini), today 4th.

With  his third success of the season, Koller jumps to P2 in the overall standings, only 3 points behind his country-fellow Leutwiler (PZ Oberer Zurichesee Porsche), today 5th, while Glauco Solieri (Antonelli Motordport), today 6th, is now third, ahead of Toni-Mauro (VSR Lamborghini), today 4th.
THE RACE – JP Mauro takes perfect start from pole ahead of Solieri, while Schouten steals third from Leutwiler but at the end of the lap has to concede te position and let also Eastwood past , with Salom in sixth ahead of Koller. The battle between Eastwood and Schouten is superb, with the Optimum Aston resisting perfectly to the attacks of the Dutchman. Schouten eventually succeeded regaining fourth in lap 4, with all gaps remaining very narrow among the top quintet, who has managed to pull away from the group.
In lap 6, with a perfect move, Schouten and Leutwiler sandwich and pass Leutwiler for third and fourth, with the top-5 within 4.5 seconds. In lap 11 opens the driver change window, with Basso being the first one to visit the pits followed by Solieri.

As the stops go ahead, Schouten, Eastwood and Leutwiler continue to fight hard on the track. They all come into the pits in lap 15. As they rejoin the race, O’Brien is second ahead of Vandierendock and Leuwiler, with Toni now driving the leading VSR Lambo with 7 seconds of advantage. The one having dropped many positions, from 2nd to 9th, is Solieri, also because of a contact with Salom in lap 15.
Soon after, it will be Vandierendonck slowing significantly, because of the gearbox issues that have mared the entire weekend of the EMG Porsche, suddenly in P7. Like in previous rounds, it is Liberati putting the show as he climbs up to 4th and continues charging. Toni still leads but has been catched by O’Brien, with Leutwiler third. Cerqueda and De wilde close the top6.
Th Aston takes the lead in lap 18 with a perfect move, and one lap later it is Liberati stealing third from Leutwiler, who will also be passed by Cerqueda in the closing laps, with the Andorran bound to success in the Am class. There is a post-race penalty of 20 seconds for the two EMG Porsches for not serving the entire handicap.
