On the rise – TF Sport set for British GT at Brands Hatch

After the sensational double podium scored in Spa-Francorchamps, TF Sport sit on the cusp of the GT4 British GT Championship in third place, just 17 points adrift of the top spot. In GT3, the team is looking to bounce back at Brands Hatch this coming weekend.

Race winners Tom Canning and Ash Hand have elevated to the top of the GT4 Silver Cup standings and have also moved into third place in the overall GT4 championship, in just their debut full season. The pairing is just 7.5 points shy of sitting proud at the peak of the overall standings.

Josh Price and Patrick Kibble finished a strong weekend on the podium in the sister GT4 and have also jumped up in the classifications. Having suffered a succession of unlucky races – including the win that escaped them in Silverstone – the Belgian podium was a welcome, and well deserved one.

“Our expectations can’t be anything less than winning now. I think once you’ve won, you’re in a position where you’re obviously fast enough and you’re doing the right things to be there. So, I think anything other than winning – unless something happens beyond your control in the race – that will always be the aim. Even with the 20 second penalty we have to take at Brands, we won with over that margin at Spa. In theory, if we go to Brands and do the same job then we can win again even with the time penalty. We just need to do a mega job, keep focused and get the job done!”

"I’m really looking forward to this weekend at Brands Hatch, being my home race as well as the team’s. We were lucky enough to be able to test at the track a couple of weeks ago and I felt like I was pretty strong and the car suited the track. I’m going to be taking the confidence from finishing on the podium last week at Spa and using it as motivation to reach the top step this time around.”
Although the GT4s enjoyed the weekend, it was a weekend of mixed emotions in the TF Sport garage as the pair of GT3s were less fortunate.

Rain caught out the field during qualifying, but Nicki Thiim and Mark Farmer recovered a top five finish in emphatic style, with a spectacular pass at Eau Rouge from the Dane to seal the result. Jonny Adam and Graham Davidson were forced to nurse their brakes and coast over the line in eighth.

The team head into the penultimate round of the championship using last year’s podium at the track as motivation to challenge at the front.

“It would be nice to be back on the podium again. I think we have the pace and I just need to sort myself out with qualifying to give us the best chance of a good result. We’ll see what happens, but it should be a good race for us.”

“After last weekend at the 24 Hours of Spa, I’m travelling home for a few days and next up is Brands Hatch with TF Sport. I’ll have to screw on my Aston Martin Vantage head again, but I’m looking forward to the event. It’s obviously crunch time in the championship, but we head there with confidence that we can take it to the final round at Donington in September.”
TF Sport Director, Tom Ferrier
“We missed out at Spa and we didn’t maximise the result we should have with the GT3s which was frustrating. But we go into the race with motivation to bounce back and we have no success penalties to take there either, so it should be good for them both. Unfortunately, it’ll be a bit tricky for the GT4s in Brands with them both having success penalties, but it should be good for them as long as they stay out of trouble. I think the car should be good around there too, but it’s also a narrow circuit so qualifying will be vital.”
