Renger looks forward to Daytona DPi racing return with Wayne Taylor Racing

Having started his season in the best possible way with a second straight win of the Rolex 24 Hours, Renger van der Zande aims to carry his early-season momentum on his return to Florida this coming weekend (July 3-4, 2020) in the IMSA WeatherTech 240 at Daytona International Speedway.

The Dutch driver joins regular teammate Ryan Briscoe in the #10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi for the second round of the season and remains stateside for the following event at Sebring International Speedway later in the month.

In these difficult times, Renger is acutely aware of issues facing the wider racing community and beyond but has made best use of the downtime to settle into his new home in Amsterdam, to prepare for the season of racing ahead and to move forward with his business interests within the sport.

“We started the season on a real high with victory in the biggest race of the year,” Renger stated. “I am looking forward to returning to normal racing life – or as closely as we can – and I’m proud of the work that IMSA has done to enable us to be racing at this earliest and safest opportunity.

“There’s been no racing, so there has also been no fear of me missing out and I still lead the championship into July,” he continued. “I’ve taken advantage of the time away from the circuit and have been setting up my new home, spending time with my family and working on the Insurance business. Now though, I’m looking forward to heading back to Daytona.

“It will also be great to see the Wayne Taylor Racing crew again, it’s been a while. We know Florida will be hot at this time of the year and that’s why it’s a little better to race into the night where the humidity and temperature drop a little.”

For Renger, travel restrictions mean he will remain in the US until early August, taking in rounds two and three of the top-flight US racing series. “I’ll see if I can travel a bit,” he said. “But it all depends on the rules on this. I’m fired up and looking to run at the front and to leave Florida with an extended championship lead.”

The Daytona 240 starts at 6pm ET on Saturday July 4 and will be televised on the NBC Sports Network as well as on IMSA TV.
