Madrid / Budapest, 4 July 2018
The International GT Open is nearing the half-season mark. As it has become customary, the turning point will take place at the Hungaroring, the twisty track on the hills outside Budapest that relaunched international motorsports into Central Europe three decades ago.
The event, with its usual summer atmosphere and the splendor of the nearby Hungarian capital as an additional attraction, promises to be extremely attractive this year too. Racing fans will enjoy not only the superb fight in all classes in the International GT Open, but also a very rich racing programme that proves there is life … besides football! The Euroformula Open will bring the excitement of F.3 single-seaters; the TCR Europe, which includes in its ranks many local heroes, is partnering GT Sport series for third time this year, and the Radical European Masters is bringing once again the thrilling essence of sportscar racing.
NEW ENTRIES, MORE STARS
With 27 cars entered for the event, the GT Open is offering again a terrific grid, enriched by a number of novelties.
The Brazilian flag is behind a number of those, as more top stars from the South American country are joining the show.

Stock Car legend and 5-time champion Cacá Bueno will make his GT Open debut alongside Brazil’s double Porsche Cup GT3 champion Ricardo Baptista. The ‘ouroverde’ pair will take part to the rest of the season in the second Mercedes AMG entered by Spanish squad Drivex.
Another Stock Car champion, the reigning one, and last year’s Le Mans 24 Hours GTE Pro winner, Daniel Serra, has been confirmed alongside Marco Cioci at the wheel of the Luzich Racing Ferrari 488 #52 for this round. Serra is not new to the GT Open, as he took part to sporadic events back in 2007-08.
To add more glace on the cake, Andrea Bertolini will make his debut in the series. The 4-time GT1 champion, who has an impressive GT curriculum that includes wins at Le Mans, Spa and Sebring enduros, will partner Daniele Di Amato in the RS Racing Ferrari 488 from now on. Bertolini was the driver initially foreseen to pair with Di Amato but his commitments as a Ferrari official tester prevented him to start the season, with Andrea Montermini perfectly taking driving duties in the first three rounds.
Another driver change relates to ARC Bratislava, whose Lamborghini Huracan will see Miro Konôpka partnering with fellow Slovak driver Zdeno Mikuláško. Last but not least, Rinaldi Racing is back to a two-car entry, with the Ferrari #333 entrusted this time to David Perel-Rinat Salikhov, a pair that will certainly fight for top honors in Pro-Am.
Confirming the good form of the lively GT scene in Central Europe, Polish squad Olimp Racing will be the latest team from the region making an appearance in the GT Open. The Debica-based squad has entered its two Audis R8 LMS: one will be entrusted to Marcin Jedlinski and Mateusz Lisowski (who is back to the international GT3 scene four years after winning the Silver Cup in the Blancpain Sprint), with Stanislaw Jedlinski crewing the other car.
OPEN FIGHTS IN ALL CLASSES
The mid-season mark also means that things are becoming serious in the fight for the titles, although the situation is extremely close in all classes.
In the Overall standings, Mikkel Mac (Luzich Racing Ferrari and most of the times associated with Alessandro Pier Guidi) keeps a 12-point advantage, but pressure from rivals is increasing, with Fran Rueda-Andrés Saravia (Teo Martín BMW)

boosted by their success at Spa and Giovanni Venturini-Jeroen Mul (Imperiale Racing Lamborghini) also in contention thanks to their consistency. The Lambos will seek in Hyungary their first race win of the season, with Breukers-Agostini (Imperiale Racing), Rees-Fioravanti (Ombra Racing) and Ling-Liberati (Sospiri Racing) also in a position to win. Among potential winners are also Beirão-Álvarez, with the other Teo Martín BMW, and the Luzich Ferrari of Cioci-Griffin, while the 488 by RS Racing, already a race winner, will be boosted by the Di Amato’s new pairing with Bertolini.
In the Pro-Am class, the most well-attended with 11 cars, the Daiko Lazarus Racing Lambo of Fabrizio Crestani-Miguel Ramos has a 3-point lead despite not having yet won one race, but climbing to the podium five times in six races. Their top rival is the SPS Automotive Mercedes of Pierburg-Onslow Cole, who have collected top honours three times, with the Drivex Mercedes of Hahn-Khodair winning in two occasion. First win will also be the goal of the Luzich Racing Ferrari of WestRugolo, another pair regularly visiting the podium, while the Optimum Motorsport Audi of Wilkinson-Ellis opened its win toll at Spa.
Some of the new pairs appearing at Hungaroring will also be clear candidates to a race win. This is the case of the Drivex Mercedes of Bueno-Baptista, the Rinaldi Racing Ferrari of Perel-Salikhov and the Olimp Racing Audi of Lisowski-Jedlinski. Lambo ranks will be completed by cars from Imperiale (Liang-Giammaria), Target Racing (DiFolco-Costantini) and Daiko Lazarus Racing (Cipriani-Sowery).
In the Am class, it is also a close call, as Giulio Borlenghi-Andrzej Lewandowski (VSR Racing) and Lambo grabbed the leadership at Spa, but have a tiny (6 points) advantage on the other Huracán by ARC Bratislava, with Konôpka now paired with Mikuláško. Also in the fight for the title are the Mercedes of reigning champions Silva-Coimbra (Sports&You) and of Konrad-Hrachowina (MS/HTP) as well as the Teo Martín BMW of Basso-Marques. Ferrari colours in the class will be defended by Hook-Parrow (Rinaldi Racing) and Audi’s by the other car of new entrant Olimp Racing, with Stanislaw Jedlinski at the wheel.

All the action can be followed from fans at home thanks to live coverage by major national broadcasters in key countries such as UK (BT Sport), Italy (Rai Sport), Spain (Teledeporte RTVE), Portugal (Sport TV), Central Europe (Digisport), and Russia / CIS countries and Baltics (Poverkhnost Sport), among others.
