A violent downpour breaks out during formation lap, with all drivers stopping to change tyres before the start, except Leutwiler, Scouten, De Wilde, Salom and Blugeon. The first four do it at the end of lap 1, performed behind safety-car.  To add to the drama, Rodolfo Toni hits the wall and Schouten loses a front wheel not properly tighten at the pit stop.
With 36 minutes of race left, the safety-car frees the group, on a track still very wet. Vinyes takes a the advantage and leads ahead of Bozzoni, Vivacqua, Diaz-Varela, Solieri, Lobera and Leutwiler. Vivacqua becomes second as Bozzoni drops to eighth. Shortly after, the window for pit stops opens, with Varela stopping first.
Leutwiler is in full duel with Solieri, passing him in lap 9, while Salom passes Lobera and the leader stops in lap 11. After all stops, Font leads with 7 seconds over De Fulgencio, 15 on Cerqueda, then Dewilde, Pujeu and a trio in full fight, with Solieri, Leutwiler and Liberati.
Font extends his lead marginally over Cerqueda, as De Fulgencio has dropped back, but it’s Liberati putting the show, as usual, as he passes one by one his rivals to take second in lap 15. Three laps later, he steals first from Font and cruises to victory.
