Balance of Performance
The track test at Valencia was the final act

The final part of the TCR Balance of Performance process was held yedsterday at Valencia’s Circuito Ricardo Tormo where the TCR technical staff worked together with the appointed tester Daniel Lloyd and the FIA Technical Delegate Carlos Barros.
Only the new models to be certified by TCR were tested: the Hyundai Veloster N, Lynk&Co 03, Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce, LADA Vesta Sport and Renault Mégane, while a CUPRA was used as the reference car.
All the cars began running according to the latest BoP table (#13/2018) and during the day they were tested in different configurations of weight and ground clearance.

Andreas Bellu, the head of the TCR Technical Department explained: “In the second half of last season we had achieved a very good balance in performance, therefore we decided to start from that. Now we will use all the data collected in the three stages of the BoP process like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.”
“I was really proud to be appointed as the official BoP tester again,”
Lloyd said. “It seems like I did a good job last year. There were less cars this year, but still a lot of track time and lots to do. It’s a difficult job, because there are many variables between the cars, so we have to figure out how to get the best feedback possible from each of them in the small time we have.”

The initial BoP list will be issued in early March and must be adopted by all the series and championships regulated by the TCR Technical Regulations. According to on-track-performance, the BoP will be adjusted during the season by the common Compensation Weight System and the Sporting Regulations of each championship.

TCR Malaysia
Luca Engstler is ready to secure the title

Luca Engstler (Hyundai i30 N) is ready to secure the title as the inaugural season of TCR Malaysia will come to an end this weekend at Sepang International Circuit.
The young German has built a margin of 41.5 points over his fellow countryman and teammate Kai Jordan (Volkswagen Golf GTI), when 55 are still on offer. Martin Ryba (VW Golf GTI), currently third in the standings, is already out of contention as he lies 61.5 points behind the leader.
The series finale has attracted some newcomers: 2018 TCR Asia vice-champion and local hero Mitchell Cheah will drive a Golf GTI for Engstler Motorsport, as well as his fellow countryman Mark Darwin.
Teamwork Motorsport returns to the series with Hong Kong's lady driver Cherry Cheung, a regular front-runner in the Chinese Racing Cup, at the wheel of a Golf GTI.
The latest addition to the entry list was Russian racer Andrey Abaluev in a second CUPRA run by Douglas Khoo's Viper Niza Racing.

TCR Europe Team WRT with Urrutia and Potty

Team WRT will race in the 2019 TCR Europe once again, fielding an Audi RS 3 LMS for Santiago Urrutia and a Volkswagen Golf GTI for Maxime Potty.
Urrutia, 22 from Urugay, is facing his Touring Car debut after shining in American single-seater series; he took the Pro Mazda Championship title in 2015 and finised twice a runner-up and once third in Indy Lights with eight race wins.
‘’For me, is an entirely new experience, as I never competed in front wheel-drive cars, but I am excited by the challenge and by racing again in Europe. It’s a new chapter in my career and I feel honoured to join Team WRT and to drive an Audi. I’m really looking forward to represent Uruguay on the international racing scene,” Urrutia said.
Potty returns to WRT after a one-year break that saw him finishing eighth in TCR Europe and second in TCR Benelux.
“I am happy to come back to Team WRT, where I developed the first years of my career. I can count on a year of great experience in TCR Europe and I know all the circuits, except Hockenheim and Red Bull Ring. The objective we share with WRT is therefore clear: we want to run at the front and aim for a podium result in TCR Europe and the TCR Benelux title!” stated Potty.
Team principal Vincent Vosse added: “We are really happy to announce our TCR Europe programme, which is a bet on youth and talent. The series will be well-attended and I can't think of a more competitive environment for our two young guns! We welcome Santi, who has a terrific racing record and is backed by the passion of an entire nation. We are equally delighted seeing Maxime come back to the family where he was born as a touring car driver. The challenge that lies ahead of us is not an easy one but we are well equipped and determined to fight for the top honours.”

TCR Europe
Davidovski and PSS Racing return

Macedonia’s Viktor Davidovski and PSS Racing are set for a second season in TCR Europe. The team will run again a Honda Civic Type R FK7.
“We are continuing our journey with more knowledge and confidence than last year. We hope to continue improving our performance as we did throughout the 2018 season. We believe in the car and in J.A.S. Motorsport's support, which has been great so far. Our aim is to close the gap from the front-runners, and we are confident that together with J.A.S. we have the potential to do it. TCR Europe is indeed a highly competitive championship, with lots of world-class drivers and teams. We are a small private team, but we feel like we can offer our contribution to make it popular and exciting,” said Davidovski.

TCR Russia

The 2019 season marks a turning point for Russia’s motorsport, as TCR Russia is the first national championship that opens to international participation. Until last year only drivers holding a license issued by RAF, Russia’s National Sporting Authority, were allowed to take part.
Oleg Petrikov, head of SMP Russian Circuit Racing Series, explained: "Ours was one of the first national championships to embrace the TCR concept in 2015 and last year we had 24 TCR competitors. From 2019 we are glad to introduce TCR Russia as the first national series opened to drivers with an international license."
Five of 2019 TCR Russia’s events will be opened to foreign competitors. The promoter has also introduced a separate classification for the drivers who race cars equipped with a DSG gearbox.

TCR UK
Kent and Wilson return for the new season

Lewis Kent and Darelle Wilson were the first drivers who confirmed their return to TCR UK for the new season.
Kent will drive the Essex and Kent Motorsport Hyundai i30 N in which he finished fifth in the 2018 Drivers’ championship.
“I’m really excited as we now have the data and an insight as to what TCR UK is all about. Hopefully with that, plus support from Hyundai Motorsport, 2019 is looking really positive. We’re now seriously aiming for the championship, but the beauty of TCR is that we’re also looking at maybe entering another TCR series, depending on budget,” he said.
DW Racing will continue running Wilson's Vauxhall Astra and team manager Les Latham stated: “We made a few mistakes last year but we’ve learnt from them and we now know the Astra really well. There was no real help for us last season as we were running the only Astra in the UK and all the cars in TCR Germany were on a different tyre. That’s changed for 2019 as we already have a relationship with VMax Engineering and Lubner Motorsport is in a good position to look after customer cars.”

TCR Italy
Enrico Bettera stays with Pit Lane Competizioni

Pit Lane Competizioni announced Enrico Bettera as the team’s first driver for the 2019 TCR Italy campaign.
Bettera and Pit Lane Competizioni began racing together in the 2016 TCR Italy when the driver claimed his maiden victory at Monza at the wheel of a SEAT León and was classified sixth in the Drivers’ standings. Having switched to an Audi RS 3 LMS in 2017, Bettera scored another race win last year at Imola and finished the season in fourth position. He also made occasional appearances in the 2017 TCR International Series and the 2018 TCR Europe Series.
Team principal Roberto Remelli said: “We have cemented a friendly relationship with Enrico and so we are delighted to retain him as part of the team. Last year we have achieved important results and the victory at Imola was the icing on the cake. We wish to repeat ourselves and possibly improve. Bettera has grown up a lot in previous years and we are confident he has the potential to fight for the title.”

TCR Australia
Wall Racing to field a second Honda Civic

Wall Racing secured a second Honda Civic Type R for the inaugural championship this year.
As well as the new car, the team has also secured a deal with J.A.S Motorsport to become the Australian agent for the Honda TCR vehicles.
Team owner David Wall, said: “We’re pleased to have secured a second Honda Civic. TCR Australia is an exciting new championship and we are getting closer to locking down drivers to fill the seats. At the moment, we’ll start the season by running two cars ourselves, but we have the capabilities of running up to five, so we’ll just see what the interest levels are like in the coming weeks. We’re happy to run multiple cars and service other Hondas at the events. I’m working on getting some ‘professional’ drivers in the cars.”
