Here’s a recap of some of the latest developments in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.

KING OF THE WTCR MICHELISZ GETS A HERO’S RETURN
Norbert Michelisz made a hero’s return to his native Hungary last Tuesday morning when he touched down at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. Michelisz had just flown in from Malaysia, where he became King of the WTCR on Sunday evening, when he was mobbed by fans and well-wishers prior taking part in a press conference. KRISTOFFERSSON FINISHES BEST OF THE WTCR ROOKIES
Johan Kristoffersson finished best of the WTCR / OSCARO newcomers with a stunning victory in the final race of the season – from P22 on the grid. The double FIA World Rallycross champion produced an incredible display in wet conditions for his third victory of the year in a Sébastien Loeb Racing-ruin Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, a result that ensured he finished above Mikel Azcona in the final table after the Spaniard was penalised for a driving infringement. MALAYSIA WTCR WILDCARDS CHEAH AND SYAHRIN IMPRESS
Hafizh Syahrin finished in a points-paying P15 as Mitchell Cheah fought the effects of a fever to land two top-20 finishes in their home rounds of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO. Although MotoGP racer Syahrin’s wildcard status made him ineligible for points, his performance exceeded his pre-race target of finishing P20 in his Hyundai Team Engstler-entered i30 N TCR and underlined an impressive transition from two wheels to four. Cheah, who partnered Syahrin at Hyundai Team Engstler, scored a best result of P16 in Race 2. Click for full story.

MONTEIRO ENDS COMEBACK YEAR WITH MORE WTCR POINTS
Tiago Monteiro marked the completion of his comeback season with points finishes in two of the three races that made up the WTCR Race of Malaysia super-finale. Monteiro was embarking on his first full year of competing after he suffered serious head and neck injuries in a testing crash in September 2017. In a year that included an emotional home win, the Portuguese finished Race 3 in sixth position to secure a top-20 placing in the final standings. Click for full story.

IT’S OFFICIAL! WTCR TITLE BATTLERS GUERRIERI AND MICHELISZ AMONG WORLD’S TOP 50 DRIVERS
Esteban Guerrieri and Norbert Michelisz are among the top 50 drivers in the world according to respected title Autosport. It has recognised their achievements during the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO with runner-up Guerrieri placed 48th and title winner Michelisz coming in at number 44. PANIS “SUPER-HAPPY” TO JOIN WTCR PODIUM CLUB
Aurélien Panis’s wait for a WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO podium is over following the Frenchman’s capture of second place in Race 1 at WTCR Race of Malaysia. After making 57 starts in WTCR / OSCARO, Panis finally landed the top-three finish his potential has craved with an impressive drive to second place in mixed conditions. Click for full story.

WTCR DRIVER AND TEAM BOSS HAGLOF: CRAZY YEAR A BLAST FOR PWR
Daniel Haglöf, who doubles as PWR Racing CEO and one of its two drivers in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO, has described his team’s first year in the sport’s top level as “tremendous”. A WTCR / OSCARO newcomer for 2019, PWR Racing notched up an impressive tally of results with Mikel Azcona taking a race win in Portugal and making four other podium visits, while Haglöf was a podium finisher in Hungary. CECCON ISSUES WTCR FUTURE CALL WITH FIFTH PODIUM
Kevin Ceccon added to his podium haul with second place in the final race of the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO in Malaysia – then reiterated his desire to be back in the series in 2020. Ceccon’s second place finish in Race 3 at WTCR Race of Malaysia is in addition to his four thirds during a season when the Italian youngster once again underlined his prowess in touring car racing. BRZEZINSKI TARGETS 2020 ESPORTS WTCR ACTION
Kuba Brzezinski wants to return to Esports WTCR in 2020 – in order to defend the live final title he won in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month. Pole Brzezinski, part of the Williams Esports team, delivered a masterclass in consistency to top the final table, eight points ahead of compatriot and team-mate Nikodem Wisniewski. Speaking during the WTCR Race of Malaysia event at the Sepang International Circuit the day after his title triumph, where he was invited to take part in the Race 1 podium ceremony, Brzezinski said: “Esports is so big right now that I would be happy if I could do Esports WTCR again, that would be great.” Click for full story.
