Dominant showing in single day event in Spain i20 R5 drivers Dani Sordo and Surhayen Pernía dominated the ten stages of Rally de Cóbreces (October 16-17) to finish first and second. Sordo won nine stages, with Pernía – his Terra Training Motorsport teammate for the event – clinching the best time on the final stage. The pair were than a minute clear of their closest rival. Xabier Lujua finished fourth in another i20 R5 and Pauric Duffy finished ninth overall in his PCRS-run Hyundai. Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Operations Leader Andrew Johns said: “It is always very nice to see our customers winning races, and even more so when it happens with such a wide range of teams and in so many different championship. In recent weeks we’ve seen Nicky Catsburg’s win in FIA WTCR and Jari Huttunen’s in WRC 3. We also witnessed, wins for teams supported by Hyundai subsidiaries in Poland and the USA, as well as in TCR Germany, and the TCR UK title clinched by a small, family-run team running with the i30 N TCR. All of this points to – of course – strong cars, but also the excellent support from the Customer Racing department to make this season as successful as possible, despite the obstacles we have all faced.” |
