BRC Racing Team ready to test themselves on the Nürburgring Nordschleife

BRC Racing Team all’esame Nürburgring - Nordschleife

An unparalleled challenge awaits BRC Racing Team and its drivers Gabriele Tarquini and Norbert Michelisz in the third round of the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), taking place from 10th to 12th May in Germany, on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

With 64 breathtaking curves, and a unique length of 25,378 km winding through the thick Eifel forests, the “Green Hell” will truly test the Hyundai i30 N TCR’s performance. The cars already boast a small record, having won three of the six races so far disputed, two during the opening weekend in Morocco and one in Hungary. Tarquini and Michelisz, between them, can also boast three pole positions and the honour of bringing BRC Racing Team to the podium for five times.

These dizzying numbers already allow Gabriele Tarquini to look at all his opponents, including his teammate, from the top of the rankings. A wonderful home weekend at the Hungaroring saw Michelisz gather a great haul of points, moving up to fourth place in the general standings. The results obtained in this early part of the season also put BRC Racing Team in first place in the teams’ rankings.

In this third round the two Hyundai i30 N TCR will also have to deal with the Balance of Performance (BoP) changes introduced by WSC (World Sport Consulting) and the FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile), following the WTCR races in Hungary.

About the upcoming race and the BoP regulations that will come into force for this race, Gabriele Tarquini comments: “Nürburgring Nordschleife is not my favourite circuit, because I don’t know it well. It’s charming but you have to face it with respect. I have raced with WTCC only in the last few years and I am still learning its secrets. Another unknown factor will be the tyres, new to everyone, that caused some problems in the past. The latest BoP will also be in place, where we will be several kilos heavier compared to the other cars. We hope the weather will be so kind to give us three wonderful races".

Norbert Michelisz says: “Nürburgring is a racetrack you can’t compare to anything. I always look forward to the challenge of racing at the Green Hell and I also enjoy the atmosphere of the 24 hour race. Although the last two race weekends showed that the i30 N TCR is among the most competitive cars on the grid, I think that in Germany we will have a difficult task because of the compensation weight that comes into play, and we will have to carry a lot of extra ballast compared to the other models. Nevertheless, after being on pole position last year and finishing three times on the podium in the last four races on the Nordschleife, my aim is to fight for podium finishes this year as well”.
