Rob Hodes and Garett Grist join Nielsen Racing for Asian Le Mans Series

Having already confirmed Tony Wells and Colin Noble for the 2019-20 Asian Le Mans Series, Nielsen Racing are pleased to confirm the line-up of its second Norma LMP3 entry with Rob Hodes and Garett Grist joining the team for the four-round endurance championship.

Rob is a relative newcomer to competition having made his debut in the US with Ferrari Challenge in 2016 where, in the Copa Shell Division, he secured numerous podium finishes, won the last race of the season and finished fourth in the world final race at Daytona.

He also competed in selected Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series events, earning three podium finishes in the Am division.  Rob did not compete for most of 2017, but in 2018 he got his first taste of a full season in LMP3 machinery in the IMSA Prototype Challenge where he came second in the Masters division.  He also finished second in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Am division that year.

In 2019, as well as further IMSA events, he is competing in the Michelin Le Mans Cup with United Autosports, finishing in the top ten at the Road to Le Mans.

Garett began karting in 2006, taking the Canadian National Karting Championship in 2009. He moved on to Formula Ford and then the Mazda Road to Indy where he raced for Andretti Autosports in USF2000 and the Pro Mazda Championship. He would compete in a second season of Pro Mazda with Juncos Racing where he finished third in the championship taking five victories and seven pole positions.

2016 would see him move to Indy Lights before focusing on sports car racing. Garett is one of only a handful of drivers in the world to have won in IMSA, ELMS, and Asian Le Mans.

As is the case with his teammate, he joins Nielsen Racing from United Autosports where he competes in European Le Mans Series - and last season in the Asian Le Mans Series where he
recorded three podium and the LMP3 victory at Buriram as well as second in the championship.

A third driver will be announced at a later date and having finished third and fifth in the Asian championship last year Nielsen Racing have high ambitions for the forthcoming campaign which gets underway with the 4H of Shanghai on 22-24 November.

David ‘Sven’ Thompson, Team Owner
“We’re delighted to confirm our second entry with Rob and Garett so early. Together with Tony and Colin we have two quick cars in the field, and we know that every year the bar is raised in the Asian Le Mans Series. We’re aiming for wins and the P3 championship to add to our success’ in the UK and Europe.”

Rob Hodes
“I’m excited for the opportunity to race Asian Le Mans Series.  All these circuits are a new experience and I look forward to the challenge!  We have awesome driver chemistry and we’re hopeful for great results!”

Garett Grist
"I’m really excited to be heading back to Asia again this winter! It was a great experience last year. We were able to battle for wins and the championship. This year heading there with Nielsen Racing and Norma, should be a great combination."

"I think it’s perfect for the winter to prepare us for Europe and American next season.  One track is new for me, but they are all new for the rest of our line-up. They will both be working hard to get up to speed as quickly as possible. We have a great line up and a great team. It should be exciting!"
