Star studded line-up set for return of the Bathurst 12 Hour at Mount Panorama

A star-studded line-up will take on Mount Panorama this weekend for the return of one of the world's most prestigious long-distance GT motor races – the LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour.

Six brands and more than 60 drivers will take on Australia’s globally renowned circuit, marking the return of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, a title that brings together the best GT events.

The LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour provides an important role as the local representatives of Audi, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche and Lamborghini will contribute to each manufacturers’ point score.
Audi currently holds a 36-point margin from Mercedes-AMG following the opening round, the Kyalami 8 Hour in South Africa

The event is also the first of two rounds of the prestigious Motorsport Australia Endurance Championship, with the second round to be held in November, again at Mount Panorama, as part of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.

Featuring a Pro-Am structure as the lead class for its return, the 2022 LIQUI MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour marks the first time an international team has competed at the Mountain since the last installment two years ago.

Hong Kong-based team Craft-Bamboo Racing will be up against the bets of Australia’s leading GT squads including Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia, which will support seven entries in the field, multiple Supercars Championship winning team Triple Eight Race Engineering representing Mercedes-AMG and Grove Racing for Porsche.

Local drivers of the calibre of Shane van Gisbergen, Craig Lowndes, Chaz Mostert, Nick Percat, Lee Holdsworth, Broc Feeney, Will Brown, Tony D’Alberto, Dean Fiore, Jack Perkins and Joey Mawson will take on some of the world’s leading GT pilots.

Track action starts off on Friday after the ‘Town to Track’ parade has been confirmed for Thursday (today).

Practice starts on Friday, with a unique and never-seen-before night session being held in the evening. Qualifying and the Top 10 Shootout will run on Saturday ahead of the 5:15am start time on Sunday. The start time will mean that the first hour of the race will be run in complete darkness – again, a first for the popular 12 Hour race.

Broadcast in Australia will be available via 7mate and Kayo, while international viewers can watch via GT World YouTube page https://www.youtube.com/gtworld.

QUOTES

Ken Collier
Category Manager, GT World Challenge Australia

“It’s great to see the Bathurst 12 Hour back as part of the Australian motorsport calendar, and in light off all of the challenges that the world has faced over the past two years, it’s terrific that the local GT World Challenge Australia teams have really embraced it,” said Collier.

“The fact that it’s part of the Motorsport Australia Endurance Championship run with the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, this is a significant event and one that everyone is looking forward to.

“The interest level for this race is incredibly high around the world and it’s great that our domestic arm of the GT World Challenge family will be in the spotlight this weekend.

“It’s really good to see Pro-Am and Am teams entering the endurance championship. And it works well, considering that Pro-Am is the leading class in the race, exactly the same as a regular round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS.

“They are looking forward to the event. It’s a major world motorsport event, and this year, there’s a great sense of occasion for our local entrants.”
