Countdown to Launch: Stjørdal to stage world première of rallycross’ new electric era

  • Traditional pre-event ‘warm-up’ will offer first glimpse of new World RX cars

  • Olympic skiing legend Svindal to join the party on eve of rallycross debut

  • 2022 World Championship campaign will get underway in Hell next weekend

The all-electric beasts that will do battle for glory in the FIA World Rallycross Championship this season will be officially unveiled in exactly one week’s time (11 August), during a downtown presentation and parade in Stjørdal ahead of Ramudden World RX of Norway in Hell.

Stjørdal is no stranger to rallycross fever, but this year, the popular pre-event, free-to-attend ‘warm-up’ in the town will carry extra significance. It will mark the first time anybody outside of the drivers and teams will get a glimpse of the new cars, which will hit the track in Hell over the following weekend (13-14 August) to kick-start an 11-round campaign that will culminate in the coronation of World Rallycross’ inaugural electric champion.

Beginning at 19:00 CEST, the World RX cars will be presented to the public, media and VIPs in front of Stjørdal’s striking Kimen Kulturhus, with drivers taking to the stage to offer insights into what fans can expect from the sport’s next generation. With twin electric motors delivering 500kW – the equivalent of 680bhp – and 880Nm of instant torque at the touch of a pedal, these cars will be capable of reaching 100km/h faster even than Formula 1.

The launch will similarly feature the FIA RX2e Championship and superstar skier Aksel Lund Svindal, who yesterday confirmed he will make his rallycross debut in Hell in the electric support series.

The presentation – which will be live-streamed on RX+, on World RX’s Facebook and YouTube channels and by championship media partners – will be followed by an autograph session and parade through the streets of Stjørdal, before the cars return to the track for final preparations ahead of the race weekend.

Arne Dirks, Executive Director, Rallycross Promoter GmbH, said:

“We are tremendously excited to be revealing World RX’s new electric era in Stjørdal next week. There has been a huge amount of hard work put in by all involved to get to this point, and as we prepare to go racing in Hell, anticipation is sky-high.

“There’s no question that Norway is leading the way in Europe when it comes to sustainability and environmental awareness in the automotive industry, so there could be no better place to begin our electrifying journey. We hope as many people as possible will join us there!”

All of the on-track entertainment and off-track features throughout the weekend in Hell will be broadcast live on RX+. Event passes are available for €7,99, with the full season pass on sale for €49,99. More information can be found here, while race weekend tickets can be purchased here.

A full pre-season news clip, news cut and accompanying still images will be available to download from the World RX News Room on the Red Bull Content Pool after the launch.
