Win denied in closing stages of Paul Ricard 1000KM

Salih Yoluc left Paul Ricard very disappointed after a near certain victory was suddenly taken away in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup during the final stages of the day-to-night event.

Teaming up with Euan Hankey and Darren Burke in the #49 RAM Racing Mercedes AMG GT3, the trio were right on the Pro-Am pace during Saturday practice and went on to claim a sensational class pole position on Sunday morning.

The start of the race saw Darren lose out but as the race progressed, he and Salih both made great gains to run second. Euan took over for the final run to the flag, but it wasn't to be.

Having taken the lead, and with a comfortable margin over their rivals, Euan was forced to pit after 137 laps, with smoke blowing from the engine.

The RAM Racing team tried to refire the engine, but the day was done and back to back victory denied.

“To say I'm disappointed is an understatement,” Salih said. “We all put in good performances and we should have won the race. We should be leading the championship easily too, but engine bolts sheared off on the kerbing and that was that. Now I look forward to the two 24 hour events coming up and hope for better fortune.”

Salih is out next with TF Sport at Le Mans and then back with RAM  Racing for the Total 24 Hours of Spa Francorchamps.
