24H TCE Series
The season begins with the 24H Dubai

Following a settled tradition, the 24H Dubai opens the 2019 24H Series this weekend. Competitors will hit the track on Thursday for a couple of 60-minute Free Practices; the Qualifying will follow in the afternoon (from 15:15 to 16:00 local time for TCE teams) and a 90-minute Night Practice will conclude the day. The race will kick off at 15:00 local time on Friday, with the TCE cars taking the start ten seconds behind the GT field.
Thirteen teams have entered in the TCR class, running Audi (6), CUPRA (4), Volkswagen (2) and Honda (1) cars.
The single Honda Civic FK8 is run by Hong Kong-based KCMG and driven by team principal Paul Ip together with experienced Touring Car racers Andy Yan (2016 TCR Asia champion), Henry Lee jr. and Kenneth Ma, and former Asian Formula Renault winner Jim Ka To.
Also from Hong Kong, TeamWork Motorsport has entered a Volkswagen Golf GTI for Sunny Wong and Alex Hui, who have been crowned TCR China champions last week; they are joined by fellow countrymen Paul Poon and Alexander Fung. The second Golf is run jointly by Switzerland’s Autorama Motorsport and Germany’s Wolf-Power Racing.
The winner of last year’s 24H TCE Europe title, Red Camel-Jordans.nl, fields a CUPRA DSG for the cosmopolitan quartet of Ivo Breukers (Dutch), Henry Littig (German), Cory Hill (Australian) and Klaus Kresnik (Austrian). Also running a CUPRA DSG is Hungary’s Zengő Motorsport with team principal Zoltán Zengő sharing driving duties with four countrymen.
Amongst the Audi teams, Finland’s LMS Racing is the most experienced with Antti Buri, Olli Kangas and Kari-Pekka Laaksonen. BTCC regular Team Dynamics Motorsport makes its first TCR appearance with Touring Car expert James Kaye together with Henry and William Neal, the sons of former BTCC champion Matt Neal. Another driver to watch is Gilles Magnus, the young Belgian selected by RACB National Team to take part in the 2019 TCR Benelux; he will drive for AC Motorsport together with another Touring Car expert Vincent Radermecker.

Roadshagger Racing tops Daytona test

The Roadshagger Racing Audi RS 3 LMS set the pace in the ‘Roar before the Rolex 24’, a three-day test at Daytona International Speedway in view of the opening round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, a 4-hour race on 25 January.
Nine TCR teams took part in the event that included six hours of testing.
The first three sessions were topped by the Honda Civic run by the LA Honda World Racing, with Mike La Marra posting fastest laps of 2:00.678 and 2:00.980 in the first two sessions, before his co-driver Tom O’Gorman went faster in session 3 with 2:00.475.
Roadshagger Racing’s Jon Morley posted a new provisional fastest lap of 2:00.254 in session 4, but during the fifth session Lee Carpentier improved, as he was clocked at 2:00.253 in his eEuroparts.com ROWE Racing’s Audi.
Morley improved further and smashed the 2-minute wall in the final session, posting a 1:59.900 that represented an improvement of 65 tenths compared to last year’s pole: 2:00.550 set by Rodrigo Sales’ Compass Racing Audi.
2018 Pirelli World Challenge TCR champion Ryan Eversley ranked fifth in the HART Honda Civic (2:00.528), behind Morley, Carpentier, O’Gorman and Todd Lamb’s Atlanta Speedwerks Civic (2:00,494).
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta entered by KMW Motorsport with TMR Engineering struggled to stay on the pace in the beginning, but in session 5 Roy Block (2:01.253) and Tim Lewis (2:01.293) were able to reduce the gap from the fastest car to 1.3 seconds.

TCR UK
David Sonenscher was named COO

Ahead of its second season, the TCR UK championship has named David Sonenscher as Chief Operating Officer.
Sonenscher has a long-standing and deep relationship with the WSC Group, the entity behind the TCR concept. He began promoting the TCR Asia Series from 2015 and has recently launched TCR Malaysia that will kick off its inaugural season in two weeks’ time at Sepang.
“I have been working for many years with David and we have developed a fruitful professional and personal relationship. His experience and enthusiasm will surely help TCR UK to grow further in its second season,” commented WSC Director Marcello Lotti.
Sonenscher added: “It’s an honour for me to be involved in TCR UK. This will require a lot of travelling around the world to match my commitments in the Far East, but I have strong motivations and I’m sure we can do a good job.”
The TCR UK championship will start at Snetterton over the weekend of April 20/21.

TCR Malaysia
The first three teams confirm entries

Hong Kong-based Prince Racing and TeamWork Motorsport were the first two teams to confirm their participation in the new TCR Malaysia series.
Prince Racing returns to TCR competition running two Honda Civic Type R FK8 cars for Michael Choi and Kenneth Lau. Choi was crowned TCR Asia champion in 2015, the series’ inaugural season, at the wheel of a Prince Racing Honda Civic FK2; last year he finished 7th in the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific. Lau, 8th in the 2015 TCR Asia, has spent the latest season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.
After winning the 2018 TCR China Drivers’ title with Sunny Wong and Alex Hui, TeamWork Motorsport will take part in TCR Malaysia with its Volkswagen Golf GTI car; the name of the driver will be unveiled in due course.
The reigning champion of TCR Asia and TCR Middle East and the runner up in TCR Germany, Luca Engstler will also begin the season in TCR Malaysia.
“Last year I began my preparation early with racing in the Emirates and this paid off. So, I’m really excited to start racing once again in January and February in Malaysia!” said Engstler who will drive a Hyundai i30 N for the Liqui Moly Team Engstler.

TC America
FCP Euro will run two VW Golf GTI cars

After a successful inaugural season finishing third team in the TCR class of Pirelli World Challenge, FCP Euro confirmed participation in the re-branded TC America.
The team will again field two Volkswagen Golf GTI cars with Michael Hurczyn, and 2018 TCR class Rookie of the Year, Nate Vincent. FCP Euro has upgraded the cars to full TCR specs, with sequential gearboxes.
“We think we have the team and the talent to run up front, we simply didn’t have the car last year,” stated Vincent.
Hurczyn added: “The TCR Cup for DSG cars was necessary because the gap to the cars with sequential gearboxes is just too vast, but we want to compete at the front and show that we can fight for overall wins.”
