A big crash between Will Brown and James Moffat has highlighted a wet and wild day of practice at The Bend Motorsport Park for Round 3 of the carsales TCR Australia Series.
Brown lost control of his Hyundai i30 N on the approach to Turn 6, slamming into the back of James Moffat’s Renault Megane.
The rear end of his Renault Megane was heavily damaged, with the bodywork pushed into the back seat area, leading to a total re-end rebuild before the car can return to action.

Moffat’s GRM team is now in a race against time to repair the car. It did not compete in the second practice session, and the team is working to get it back on track for Saturday and Sunday’s races.
Brown’s Hyundai i30 N missed the rest of the opening practice but was repaired for Practice 2 where he finished the session in 15th.
After the incident and a subsequent stewards meeting, Brown was fined $250 for his part in the crash.
Dodging the carnage and leading the pack at the end of the day was Tony D’Alberto in his brand-new Honda Civic Type-R. The Victorian put in a strong late time in the second session to top the day’s running, ahead of Jason Bright’s Volkswagen Golf GTI and D’Alberto’s Honda team-mate John Martin.
Jordan Cox, driving the third Wall Racing Honda, put in an exceptional performance on his debut day in the TCR Australia Series. The 26 year old was fastest in the first session, backing that up with a strong fourth in Practice 2.

Another category debutant, Australian touring car legend Russell Ingall, finished the two sessions in ninth and 11th today.
Qualifying will be held 10:35am local Adelaide time and Race 1 will be held at 1:45pm.

“I was just behind James Moffat heading into the hairpin at Turn 6,” he explained.
“I was five-to-six car lengths back and moved to the left to get out of the spray and as soon as I touched the brakes I aquaplaned. I tried to turn away on the wet and slippery track but I collected him and that was that.”

Driver, Garry Rogers Motorsport Renault

“It’s definitely not the ideal way to start the weekend here at The Bend Motorsport Park,” he said.
“The conditions were pretty tricky and young Will Brown was caught out by it, aquaplaned and centre-punched our Renault pretty hard. Will came down and saw me straight away and was very apologetic which was good of him, but hopefully our guys at GRM can fix the car and we can get back out there tomorrow.”

Tony D'Alberto
Driver, Wall Racing Honda
“It was a nice start to the weekend. It was really tricky conditions, but it's nice to be at the pointy end of the field after a rough Phillip Island,” said Tony D’Alberto.
“I don’t think this car is any different to my old one, it’s just new and fresh. I didn’t expect there to be a change in the handling of the car, but today, it was hard to know with the conditions.
“We got more gain out of changing tyre pressures than anything else.”
