i30 N TCR customers complete dominant performance in TCR Australia

  • HMO Customer Racing driver Will Brown completed his championship winning TCR Australia Series season with podium finishes in each of the three races on the final weekend
  • Brown scored seven wins during the championship’s inaugural season, clinching the drivers’ title at the penultimate meeting
  • Teammate Nathan Morcom finished fourth in points, having finished second in a Hyundai 1-2 earlier in the year – the only time a manufacturer accomplished the feat in the 2019 season.

The inaugural TCR Australia season ended with another strong weekend for the HMO Customer Racing Hyundai i30 N TCR team and drivers Will Brown and Nathan Morcom at The Bend Motorsport Park.

Brown scored his seventh win of the season in Saturday’s Race 1, and then added second and third place finishes in the series’ two contests on Sunday. His third place in Race 3 came behind Morcom, who ended his season with his first victory at the wheel of the Hyundai.

The final weekend of the season at the track near Adelaide was a coronation for Brown, who clinched the drivers’ title with a set of strong results at the previous meeting at Sandown Raceway.

The pacesetter since the start of the season – in May at Sydney Motorsport Park – Brown notched up seven race wins through the season including double victories on both the curtain-raising weekend and the series’ visit to Winton, where he also claimed pole position.

His dominance was completed by a total of 15 podium finishes – including a streak of eight consecutive top-three finishes to start the year – and nine fastest laps.

Nathan Morcom finished the year fourth in points after his victory in the season finale. Before the trip to the top of the podium his season highlight, and a major moment for the i30 N TCR in the championship, came in the final race at Round 2 at Phillip Island, when he followed Brown across the line to claim a Hyundai 1-2. This was the only time all season when a manufacturer finished in the top two places in any event in an extremely competitive championship season.

Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Senior Sales Associate Andrew Johns said: “The entire HMO Customer Racing team has been very strong all year and the performance on the final weekend, in a very competitive field, was a perfect way to end the series’ inaugural season. Will’s performance from the first races has been exceptional, and has really shown what the Hyundai i30 N TCR is capable of. To be able to celebrate another title with our customers is obviously great, but it is all the more important as it comes in a market where the TCR category is still establishing itself and expanding. Hopefully – with support from HMO Customer Racing – we can see more teams and drivers racing and winning with the car in Australia, and New Zealand, next year.”
