Hyundai Motorsport continues to support customer teams during COVID-19 outbreak

  • The Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing department continues work to support teams in both rallying and racing through the current situation surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak
  • Voluntarily operating from home to help slow the spread of the virus the department’s staff remain committed to work with teams and drivers.
  • The time is also being taken to look pro-actively at internal processes in order to further improve the service given to customers in preparation for the return of motorsport action.

The Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing department continues to be focused on supporting its i20 R5, i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR customers through the current situation and uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Though there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Hyundai Motorsport employees, under government advice to limit the spread of the virus the decision was taken for the staff to voluntarily work from home in order to protect themselves and the surrounding community. However, where possible it remains business as normal as they strive to support its customers through this time.

At times like this motorsport must come second to wider issues about public health. Still, the department realises the impact that this unprecedented situation is having on both teams and drivers. Though motorsport is far from the biggest concern for many, a vast majority of race and rally events either postponed to later in the year or cancelled. From home the customer racing staff continues to maintain, unbroken, a similar level of support to customers, working with them however possible throughout the furlough.

The entire department is focused on building towards the time when normal operations can resume, with motorsport series returning to action around the world. During the enforced break in competition the time is being taken to work pro-actively in assessing internal processes to further improve the quality of service and support offered to both R5 and TCR customers. Everyone involved in the department is concentrated on making sure that the return to racing is met smoothly and quickly with as little further disruption as possible.

Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Operations Leader Andrew Johns said: “Though we recognize the current unprecedented circumstances around COVID-19, as far as possible it remains business as normal for the Customer Racing department. By becoming Hyundai Motorsport customers teams and drivers have trusted in us. It is times like this we must show that trust has been placed. We understand the harsh impact the situation will be having on all Hyundai customers and wish for them all to remain safe in the weeks and months ahead in the knowledge that the department will be ready when they, and the world, return to racing. Our engineers and sales staff continue to help teams throughout the current situation to make sure that everybody is prepared for when TCR and rally series are running once more. Furthermore, we are working hard to make constructive use of this time in order to understand where we can improve our own processes to better support our customers in future.”
