For Immediate release (26 March 2021): PURE ETCR is proud to unveil a new series of short films showing how the series aims to inspire a major change in the thinking surrounding electric vehicles.

Produced in Monaco in collaboration with Hyundai Motorsport, the five films explore the themes of technology, fun, environment and innovation and how PURE ETCR can be a driving force in the push towards low-emissions mobility in the future.

The films feature Hyundai Motorsport ETCR Test and Development Driver Augusto Farfus taking to the fabled streets of the Principality in the all-electric Veloster N ETCR, bringing the future of touring car racing into one of the sport’s most historic venues.

Seven per cent of all vehicles in Monaco are electric already. This, plus its status as the host the annual Salon International d’Automobile Monaco - a motor show that focuses on eco-friendly vehicles - made it an ideal location.

World-renowned adventurer, environmentalist and chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation, Bertrand Piccard, climbs behind the wheel of the Veloster N ETCR with His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco as an interested passenger.

Farfus said: “Every time somebody tries an electric car - me included - they come out smiling because the power delivery and the acceleration are amazing.

“We’re here to be part of this new step of electric motorsport, and to show people that electric cars are pretty great.”

Episode 1 focuses on how responsible use of technology can be used for the good of mankind and shows how the lessons learnt by Hyundai on the racetrack in PURE ETCR will have a direct impact on the Korean manufacturer’s next generation of electric cars.

The fun of driving an electric vehicle is explored in Episode 2 with Farfus demonstrating the immense acceleration afforded by the Hyundai’s 500kW powertrain, which gives the Veloster the equivalent of 670bhp, making it one of the most powerful touring cars ever built.

In Episode 3 the Brazilian reveals the challenges of developing a brand-new racing car utilising previously untried powertrain technology and how claims that electric vehicles are ‘boring’ are hugely wide of the mark.

The environment is the focus of Episode 4 with Piccard calling on drivers across the world to become pioneers and join the electric revolution and HSH Prince Albert outlining Monaco’s plan to move towards carbon-neutrality by 2050.

Finally, Piccard reminds us that it is only the creative spirit of pioneering individuals throughout history that has brought humankind to its current place and urges major social and technological decisions to only be taken for the benefit of the planet and all that live on it.

In Episode 5 he calls on all of us to be innovators and work together for a more sustainable future, with a move towards electromobility just one simple way in which we can help to achieve this.

Piccard said: “For a long time ecologists have shown a very dull and boring world; a world of less mobility, consumption, comfort and growth.

“But now there is disruption; the ability to show ecology through the window of something that brings enthusiasm, passion, performance and profitability.

“When you see the new championship of PURE ETCR, you see this; that you can do better with electric cars and bring a new way to race. You will see real Battles with real drivers - not just cars turning on a track. And you can buy this car in the showroom and feel like a pioneer driving it.

“This series will send a signal. That signal is that if you want to be fashionable and have performance, you can do this with an electric car. What more can you dream of?”

The five films will be released on a weekly basis, starting this week, and will be watchable via the PURE ETCR website and social media channels.

PURE ETCR, featuring the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR, kicks off at the Autodromo Vallelunga, Italy, on June 18-20 and comprises five events in Europe and Asia.

You can follow the whole season on pure-etcr.com, social media and via the Eurosport network.
