Salih Yoluc is delighted with the confirmation that he will join United Autosports for the 2018-19 Asian Le Mans Series (AsLMS) alongside reigning LMP3 champions Guy Cosmo and Patrick Byrne.
Salih, who is competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship with TF Sport as well as the Blancpain Endurance Cup with RAM Racing, knows United Autosports well from his short spell with the team at the Gulf 12H in 2017. He finished a fine third in the Ligier JS P3.
Proving his racing versatility, he now sets his sights on the LMP3 honours in what is his third discipline of the year. The first round of the series gets underway at Shanghai International Circuit on November 24-25.
Salih, what attracts you to the Asian Le Mans Series?
"I've always wanted to make a move to Prototypes, more specifically LMP2’s, so I thought that the Asian Le Mans Series would be a good way to start the process in what is a very competitive series."
You know United Autosports and your teammates well from last year, what are your expectations for the four-round championship?
“I know Patrick and Guy well from last year’s Gulf 12H race. They’re nice guys and very fast as well. They won AsLMS LMP3 last year, so I’ll do my best to try to help them to take the championship again.”
How does driving an LMP3 car compare to the GTE and GT3 you are so used to?
“LMP3 is all about aero and corner speed which makes them fun to drive. They’re a bit more ‘raw’ than the GT package, so I’m very much looking forward to getting back behind the wheel and pushing for wins!”
Will you also be competing in the Gulf 12H again with the team?
“I don’t know about that yet, it depends on many factors, but it is a race I certainly enjoyed a great deal last year. We shall see.” |
