Dragon Speed’s No. 21 ORECA 07 started from the fifth place and fought for a little while against IDEC Sport’s No. 28 and Duqueine Engineering’s No. 30 cars, before scoring the first points of the 2019 European Le Mans Series in Le Castellet. Trio Henrik Hedman, Ben Hanley and James Allen’s strategy paid off. Not only they won the race, but also posted the best lap time thanks to Allen (1:40.803).
In addition to the American team’s first place – 75th win in class – the ORECA 07s also clinched a triple win with Duqueine Engineering, serious contenders for victory until a slow puncture, and IDEC Sport team who delivered a consistent and high-level performance. G-Drive had clinched the pole but crossed the finish line just off the podium, in front of Graff Racing’s car, which had led the race at some point.
All ORECA chassis made it to the end of this eventful ELMS opening round, eight of which crossed the finish line within the Top 10. With ORECAs occupying the first five places of the rankings, two of them having started from the first row, and a best lap time, this 2019 season promises to be exciting for the French manufacturer based in Var. |
