Renger van der Zande joins Inter Europol, adds FIA WEC to extensive 2021 race programme

Rolex 24 winner Renger van der Zande is to expand his race programme in 2021 to include the FIA World Endurance Championship, where he will compete with Inter Europol Competition in the LMP2 class.

Renger, who has already confirmed his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with Chip Ganassi Racing, will race alongside Jakub ‘Kuba’ Śmiechowski and Alex Brundle as the Polish team step up from European Le Mans Series with its Oreca 07 Gibson.

Renger won the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup this year, as well as taking his second successive Rolex 24H race win. The FIA World Endurance Championship is also familiar turf for Renger, who most recently competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans where he had great pace and finished the race. In additional he competed in the series in 2018-19, with a best finish of fourth overall secured at Silverstone.

Season 9 of the FIA World Endurance Championship gets underway at Sebring in March, but on this occasion Renger will be on his IMSA duties at the same circuit. He will re-join Inter Europol Competition at Spa-Francorchamps in May before heading to Circuit de la Sarthe in June for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A further three rounds follow before the conclusion of the season in Bahrain in November.

"It's a great situation to focus on both of the two highest platforms of prototype racing in IMSA and WEC. The prototypes are the cars I have the most experience in now and I just love driving those fast, high downforce racecars.

"It's a privilege to be adding this FIA WEC programme with Inter Europol Competition to my Chip Ganassi Racing with Cadillac programme in IMSA next season. That's my base programme for 2021 and of course, I am happy to be going back to Le Mans as well, such an iconic circuit and race.

"Unfortunately I have a clash for the first round of the series at Sebring so I cannot race there in WEC, but I will be watching and hope that Inter Europol has a great run, while I focus on the Ganassi IMSA 12-Hour race. As a result, my FIA WEC season really starts at the next round at Spa-Francorchamps.

"Inter Europol are a good team; they have been working really hard and have made gains, improved and got better by the season. It's an honour to be hired by them for the season and for Le Mans, this shows they're motivated to do well in the series. There's still work to do, as ever, improvements to be made, so we will be aiming to do use the rounds ahead of Le Mans to get fully up to speed, to ensure that we're very competitive when we get to the 24 Hour race! A good season ahead!"
