Nielsen Racing head to the Michelin Le Mans Cup season finale at Portimao with an 11-point advantage in the championship race. The paring of Tony Wells and Colin Noble have enjoyed a great season to date aboard their #7 Ligier JS P320, securing victories at both Le Castellet and Le Mans to put them in pole position for the title in Portugal.
Their nearest rivals – Alexander Mattschull and Nicolas Varrone – will be pushing flat out to try and take the title, but regardless of the result, a third position for Tony and Colin would seal the result. Naturally, nothing can be taken for granted in motorsport, with the team approaching the race as it would any other and with total focus on Sunday’s two-hour race result.
Teammates Alex Mortimer and Mark Crader have had little luck this year aboard their #20 Grainmarket Duqueine and having missed out on points last time out at Spa-Francorchamps, will be looking to conclude their season on a positive note.
It is also the final round of the European Le Mans Series. Nick Adcock, Austin McCusker and Max Koebolt team up for the final time this year having shown great pace early season in their #6 Ligier. Similarly, Tony and Colin will be seeking that early season form and a strong final round could well vault them back up into the top ten in the championship. |
