What will we remember about the WSK Super Master Series 2022?

The first international championship of the season has just finished on the Sarno circuit at the foot of Vesuvius. The first point to take into account when analysing the results concerns the temperatures, which never exceeded 12-13°, which had an influence on the functioning of the tyres. The second point to note is the high level of participation, which is an encouraging sign for the future, although this must be tempered with the consequences of the world situation, which are already being felt due to the war launched by Russia in Ukraine.

A Sodi / TM Racing kart won in KZ2, that of Senna van Walstijn, against the Birel ART / TM Racing karts of Matteo Vigano and Pedro Hiltbrand. CRG also has a very effective line-up with Jeremy Iglesias as leader. The dominance of TM Racing gearbox engines has been confirmed against IAME and Vortex, both in terms of performance and number of drivers. However, experience has shown that the official Tony Kart / Vortex packages often come back to the top as the races go on, while the KR / IAMEs make steady progress.

In the direct-drive categories, the duel is open between the Tony Kart / Vortex and the KR / IAME which share between 55 and 70% of the field. The results gained by the three factories powered by TM Racing are very interesting with a smaller number of drivers. Parolin Motorsport, Birel ART Racing and Energy Corse are not here to make up the numbers. In both OK and OK-Junior, the rookies are already well represented among the frontrunners.

Unofficially an international category, the WSK-style Mini is a key element in the financial balance of these competitions. For those who can afford to participate, it is also the best training for the top level. Just look at the ease with which the best Minis join the OK-Junior category from their debut in the higher category.

Tyres remain a subject of discussion or controversy, shrouded in vagueness. Apart from a few indisputable cases concerning the homogeneity of the tyres, it is difficult to distinguish the true from the false in the information circulated by the teams and the drivers. The tyre is always the first parameter to be blamed for a poor performance because it is an imposed external element. It is true that the high number of competitions and the difficulties of delivery do not make the work of the three manufacturers currently remaining in the race easy.

All eyes are now on Champions of the Future by RGMMC at the Portimao circuit in preparation for the FIA European Karting Championship.
