Race Weathered Editions

We are delighted to unveil new images of our recently completed race weathered projects at 1:8 scale: Briggs Cunningham and Bob Grossman's Jaguar Lightweight E-Type from the 1963 Le Mans and Michael Schumacher's race winning Ferrari F2002 from the 2002 Canadian Grand Prix.

Our artistically race-weathered and race-damaged models are handcrafted in very limited numbers, sometimes just as one-off special projects. Beyond the incredible detailing of the original, weathered models are meticulously hand-painted and detailed by our master artisans in Bristol to show every detail of the race dirt, tyre wear and damaged bodywork of a particular car during a specific race. The artistry applied to these extremely limited editions underlines our commitment to creating beautiful hand-made pieces which fully capture both the spirit and precise appearance of iconic race cars.

Jaguar Lightweight E-Type

1963 24 Hours of Le Mans - Briggs Cunningham and Bob Grossman

This fine recreation of the #15 Jaguar Lightweight E-Type (XKE) exhibits every detail of the race dirt that adorned the hastily repaired car after its 24 hours of tough competition at Circuit de la Sarthe. Grossman was behind the wheel on the Sunday morning when the brake pedal snapped as the car came to the end of the Mulsanne straight. The car slammed through three rows of haybales, scattering spectators, but he was able to get the car back to the pits. Stealing parts from the #14 car, the American driver duo persevered, crossing the finish line in ninth position overall and second in class. Limited to just five pieces, the first model in this edition has already been sold, leaving only four models available.

Ferrari F2002

2002 Canadian Grand Prix - Michael Schumacher

Our precise recreation of Michael Schumacher's F2002 at the end of the Canadian Grand Prix displays the grime and extraordinarily dense blackening of the wheels that was a result of the very high levels of carbon dust shed by the brakes, a common feature of F1 cars during the period. Brake discs were quite often liable to start breaking down towards the end of a race, with consequent pollution of the air for following drivers. This race marked Ferrari's 150th race victory, and this special edition is limited to just five pieces. Only two remain.

Mercedes W196

1955 British Grand Prix - Sir Stirling Moss

As raced at Aintree in July 1955. Moss led home the W196’s finest hour, a dominating 1-2-3-4 finish ahead of his Argentine companion Juan Manuel Fangio, German racer Karl Kling and Italian driver Piero Taruffi. Only three of five pieces remain.

Ferrari F1-90

1990 Mexican Grand Prix - Nigel Mansell

As raced at the notoriously bumpy Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Prost won the race, but Mansell stole the show with a daring pass going into the ultra-fast Peraltada corner. This edition is limited to just five models. Only two remain.

Ferrari 330 P4 at 1:18 scale

1967 24 Hours of Le Mans - Ludovico Scarfiotti, Mike Parkes

This meticulously patinated model of the Ferrari 330 P4 that finished second at Circuit de la Sarthe in June 1967 is limited to just 100 pieces. The model itself was developed using data from a digital scan of the only perfect example of the 330 P4 left in existence, that has not suffered crash damage or major modification. The resulting prototype models was scrutinised and passed by Ferrari Classiche to ensure complete accuracy. The final batch of these models has been completed, and is ready for immediate shipping. Fewer than 30 models remain.

Audi R8

2005 24 Hours of Le Mans - Tom Kristensen, JJ Lehto, Marco Werner

Built especially to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Audi's fifth 24 Hours of Le Mans victory, this weathered edition is limited to just 15 pieces. The #3 ADT Champion Racing car also sealed Tom Kristensen’s place in Le Mans history as he became the most successful Le Mans driver of all time, surpassing Jacky Ickx's all-time record of six overall Le Mans wins. It was Lehto's second Le Mans victory and Werner's first, also sealing the latter the Triple Crown of Endurance Racing (overall wins in the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans). This remains the largest special edition by Amalgam at 1:8 scale to date.
