Cooperation between the Project Directorate and the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) continues.
In 2024, the International Silk Way Rally will pass through the territories of three countries: the route will connect the Russian Federation, Mongolia and the People’s Republic of China. The competition starts on July 5 in Tomsk, and after ten days of struggle and 5,500 kilometers of distance it will finish in Khorgos, China.
A round of the Russian Rally-Raid Championship will be held as part of the upcoming marathon in the Overall, T2, R, T5 standings for cars and trucks, as well as T3 for side-by-side vehicles. The competition will be held thanks to the long-term cooperation between the Silk Way Rally Association for the Support and Development of Motorsports and the Russian Automobile Federation. It will allow the national championship competitors to gain experience in performing in a world-class rally and compete with the best drivers in the world.
The Russian Championship round, the fourth in the calendar of this series, starts simultaneously with the International Silk Way Rally on July 5 in Tomsk. The estimated sports distance will be 560 kilometers. On Saturday, July 6, the caravan of competitors will leave for Barnaul, and the next day will reach Gorno-Altaisk. On July 8, crews will overcome the stage connecting Gorno-Altaisk and Kosh-Agach, where the finish line and the award ceremony for the winners of the Russian Championship event will take place. In turn, the International Silk Way Rally caravan will continue moving towards the border with Mongolia.
Let us remind you that the first round of the Russian Rally-Raid Championship as part of cooperation between the International Project Silk Way Rally and the RAF took place in 2016. Then the national series crews started on Red Square in Moscow and finished in Alma-Ata. This experience was repeated in 2018, and in 2022, the Gold of Kagan Baja was held as part of the international rally.
In 2023, the format of cooperation changed — the Silk Way Rally Association for the Support and Development of Motorsports was the organizer of the Russian Championship round. The new format has proven itself successfully and will be maintained in 2024.
Vladimir Chagin, Head of the International Project Silk Way Rally, “In 2024, the Silk Way Rally will celebrate its 15th anniversary, and throughout this time supporting and popularizing motorsports in Russia have been among the main goals of our Project. For the fifth time competitors of the Russian Championship will climb the starting podium of the Silk Way Rally. We are proud that we were able to create such conditions that drivers can learn from the experience of world-famous champions and get acquainted with unique tracks. An atmosphere of friendship and mutual support is traditional for the bivouacs of our rally, and it is especially pleasant to see that every year more and more people want to experience the unique tremendous journey with us.”
Viktor Sokolov, First Deputy Head of the International Project Silk Way Rally, “The route of the 14th edition of the Silk Way Rally will be the most diverse in the entire history of the Project. The upcoming event will be a challenge not only for the drivers and their vehicles, but also for the engineers and mechanics who need to find settings for cars and motorcycles that are suitable for different climatic zones. All competitors, regardless of experience, will find themselves in unique conditions that they have never encountered before, and it is this approach that allows the athlete to develop and hone all the skills necessary in rally-raids.”
