PORTUGAL’S JOÃO FERREIRA TO JOIN CAN-AM AND SOUTH RACING

FOR MOROCCO AND 2024 FIA W2RC RALLY-RAID PROGRAMME

Portugal’s leading cross-country driver João Ferreira has joined forces with Can-Am and South Racing and will compete in the forthcoming Rally of Morocco under the Can-Am Factory Racing banner, in preparation for a full assault at the 2024 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC).

The defending FIA European Cup for Cross-Country Bajas champion will compete in the latest of South Racing’s Can-Am Maverick XRS Turbo RR in the FIA T4 category after taking part in the T3 section for lightweight prototype cross-country machines this year.

The winner of last year’s Italian Baja and a podium finisher on events like the Hungarian Baja and Baja Portalegre 500, will team up with his friend and experienced co-driver Filipe Palmeiro, with whom he won the recent Baja TT Sharish Reguengos Mourão in his native Portugal.

Ferreira will join the South Racing operation for the first time in North Africa before heading into the five rounds of the 2024 W2RC in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, the Iberian Peninsula, Argentina and Morocco.

The Can-Am Maverick X3 is a six-time winner of its class at the gruelling Dakar Rally and is the most successful of all the side-by-sides competing in FIA cross-country motor sport.

The Maverick X3 is built by Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) with unrivalled power and performance and can handle any adventure you can dream of. The market-leading Side-by-Side is powered by a Rotax ACE Turbo RR engine designed and built by Rotax in Austria.

South Racing Can-Am Team’s managing director Scott Abraham said: “It is great to welcome João to the Can-Am and South Racing family. We are looking forward to our first event in Morocco and an exciting schedule for 2024.”

Ferreira added: “I’m very happy to join South Racing and Can-Am. In the last years the team has been dominating the T3 and T4 classes and I’m looking forward to start our journey with the T4 class for the 2024 season.”

The South Racing Can-Am Team receives valuable support for the race programme from BRP, Rotax, Method Wheels, Tensor Tires, Motul, J.Juan Brake Systems, Oakley and Sparco.
